Culture for Diversity Inventory™ (CDI)

The CDI assists organisations in creating a consistent and constructive culture to integrate the talents and efforts of diverse members. Based on the Organisational Culture Inventory (OCI), the CDI more directly assesses the norms that guide the way diverse members within an organisation interact.

Audience: Organisations interested in promoting cooperation between diverse groups

Most Frequently Used for:

  • Assessing the current culture with respect to diversity
  • Defining the ideal culture with respect to the valuing and managing of diversity
  • Identifying changes that benefit all members
  • Promoting cooperation, collaboration, and effective performance
  • Monitoring the impact of change efforts and diversity initiatives

Time Required: 20 minutes to complete the inventory

Format: Paper Self-Scored; Paper Computer-Scored; Online

Feedback Provided: A picture of an individual’s normative beliefs or understanding of how they are expected to relate to members of other groups (when the participant plots their own results); the shared behavioural expectations or norms that guide the way in which members of different groups interact and approach their work (when the results of multiple participants are combined). Results are presented for 12 behavioural norms grouped by three clusters--Constructive, Passive/Defensive, and Aggressive/Defensive.

Presentation of Results: On the circumplex

Associated Outcomes: Constructive cultures have been shown to have a positive impact on important outcomes such as member satisfaction, motivation, and feelings of equity; teamwork and the management of inter-group relations; and the quality of products and services as well as other organisational-level indicators of effectiveness.
