Group Styles Inventory™ (GSI)

Designed for serious team-building programmes, the GSI assesses the way in which team members interact with one another and approach problems and decisions. Insights into these interaction styles enable teams to identify what they need to do to work together more effectively and achieve synergy—that is, to ensure that their interactive efforts have a greater impact than the sum of their individual efforts.

Audience: Any temporary or permanent group or team responsible for solving problems and making decisions

Feedback Provided: GSI results illustrate the perceptions by individual members, as well as the collective perspective of the team as a whole, of the degree to which 12 specific group styles emerged during a problem-solving activity. These 12 styles are grouped into three clusters—Constructive, Passive/Defensive, and Aggressive/Defensive.

Presentation of Results: The results are displayed on the circumplex, normed on the basis of hundreds of group members.

Associated Outcomes: The group styles measured by GSI are directly related to team effectiveness, solution acceptance, solution quality, and synergy.
